I personally refuse having donor status because the hospital/doctors PROFIT from it. If i donate my organs, I feel the doctors/hospitals should donate their time and facilities to help the people that want to receive the organs. My dog hurt himself, I feel the doctors need to donate their time to help him. Where I do agree with you though is things like blood/plasma donation - the red cross sells it for a profit to hospitals, they need to sell it at COST because they get it for free, yes they have overhead to process it but it is not a profit making venture. Being listed as an anatomical donor on your DL means your body is treated a bit differently but without your next of kins consent you wont be used no matter what so if it's for religious reasons his family likely wouldn't consent either so it's a moot point.

Best Answer: Contrary to popular belief, if you are in a coma, your plug is not pulled for your organs. The only way your organs are donated is if there is NO chance for you to come back. Then EMT's and Paramedics like myself work our backsided off to keep you alive so your organs can be used. The organs are of no use if the blood isn't kept flowing to them. Coma doesn't mean you are dead, just incapacated. Now back to the origional question, Call the DMV and request they remove you from the list. The only drawback is if you have the new license with the red dot already on it, you'll probably have to get a new one.
Usually they put a mark on your drivers license to notify doctors that you are a donor. Go back to the DMV and ask it to be removed. You might have to pay for another ID or you might not. Depends on your state's DMV policies EDIT: btw I can understand why you would want to be taken off. If you are in a coma and you are a organ donor, doctors will take you off life support to save others. Let your family know what you want done in certain situations. Also have it written down somewhere, where people can find it.
I told my husband that if I get put on life support, give me a chance to come back. If after a year or so and the doctors don't think I will pull through, pull the plug and pass out my organs.
