On the inside of the dust case opposite the face is engraved, 'TR&S', '8226' (serial number?) and '9.375'. The number on the face is 45598 which I assume is a model number or serial number. In addition to a TR stamp and the hallmarks in the case lids there is a 98 stamped which may relate to the number on the face. There was a paper in the watch that appears to be a jewelers description I have included photos of it as well.
Any assistance with dating would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Russell does appear sometimes to put his serial numbers on the dial (which is quite unusual). I have a Thomas Russell numbered 72703 on the dial and the movement, and the case is numbered 703. That ties the movement to the case, and the hallmark date on the case is 1876. That would place my watch a year earlier than yours but with a 27,000 higher serial number There have been suggestions made here before that Russell's numbering system was quite idiosyncratic Incidentally, there is no cause to be worried about removing the back cover to get at the movement (the cover almost certainly is hinged) but any jeweller's shop will do it for you in a couple of seconds.
If you would like to view the movement, you will see a catch located at the bottom of the dial or where the number 6 would be. Push the catch in with your finger nail and the movement will tipout. It is hinges just like the glass bezel. In fact it is hinged at the same point. The movement may hace a brass dust cap, in which case it is usually held by a blue circular half ring clip. Slid the ring, it will unlock the cap from 2 small pins and the cap will lift off.
The Chester letter dates with this style font is particularly hard to make out. My guess it is of the 1850's as the font is similiar and if you look at the dial with seconds marked in 5ths, that is a 1850's style of dial. The number on the dial is the movement serial number.

While the case may have this same number, as the English started number cases to movement numbers regularly around 1840 or so. I've spent hours studying the photo of the hallmarks (well, five minutes anyway) and I've concluded that what we're looking at is an upper case 'D' for 1842. According to my book, Chester used a leopard's head in addition to the town mark up to 1838, although it's not certain if this was obligatory. The lower case 'o' whaich has been suggested for 1877 has a clear point at the center bottom, and this mark doesn't have that. If it is a 'D' it certainly lacks the fancy infill, but it's the closest I can see. And of course if it is 1842 then that would make sense of the serial number in relation to the number of my watch.
